Ingredients:
2 cups fresh blackberries (or thawed frozen ones)
1 cup granulated sugar
2 cups water
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
For the Dumplings:
1 cup all-purpose flour
2 tablespoons sugar
1 Β½ teaspoons baking powder
ΒΌ teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons unsalted butter, cold and diced
Β½ cup milk
Instructions:
In a large saucepan, mix the blackberries, sugar, water, lemon juice, and vanilla extract. Bring this mixture to a gentle simmer over medium heat.
While the syrup simmers, prepare the dumpling dough. In a bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
Using a fork or your fingers, cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
