Homemade KFC-Style Fried Chicken
Ingredients:
For the Chicken:
1 whole chicken, cut into pieces
2 cups all-purpose flour
2 tablespoons paprika
1 tablespoon garlic powder
1 tablespoon onion powder
1 tablespoon dried oregano
1 tablespoon dried basil
1 tablespoon dried thyme
1 tablespoon salt
1 tablespoon black pepper
2 cups buttermilk
Vegetable oil, for frying
Directions:
In a large bowl, mix together flour, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, oregano, basil, thyme, salt, and black pepper to make the seasoned flour mixture.
Place the chicken pieces in a separate bowl and pour buttermilk over them, ensuring they are fully coated. Let them soak in the buttermilk for at least 30 minutes, or overnight in the refrigerator for best results.
Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet or deep fryer to 350°F (175°C).
Remove the chicken from the buttermilk and dredge each piece in the seasoned flour mixture, making sure to coat them thoroughly.
Carefully place the coated chicken pieces in the hot oil, frying in batches if necessary to avoid overcrowding the skillet or fryer.
Fry the chicken for 12-15 minutes, turning occasionally, until golden brown and cooked through. The internal temperature should reach 165°F (75°C) for safe consumption.
Once cooked, remove the chicken from the oil and place it on a wire rack or paper towels to drain excess oil.
Serve the homemade KFC-style fried chicken hot and crispy, alongside your favorite sides and dipping sauces.
