Vintage Hedgehog Slice 🦔🍫
A no-bake British-Australian classic from the 1970s—crumbly biscuit, cocoa, and a chocolate topping with "spikes" made from almonds (just like a hedgehog!).
Ingredients:
For the Base:
🍪 Digestive biscuits: 250g, crushed
🧈 Butter: 125g, melted
🍫 Cocoa powder: 2 tbsp
🍬 Caster sugar: 100g
🥥 Desiccated coconut: 50g
For the Topping:
🍫 Dark chocolate: 200g, chopped
🧈 Butter: 1 tbsp
🌰 Flaked almonds: 50g (for the "spikes")
Method:
1️⃣ 🍪 Mix the base:
Combine crushed biscuits, melted butter, cocoa, sugar, and coconut. Press firmly into a lined 20x30cm tin.
2️⃣ 🍫 Melt the topping:
Gently melt chocolate and butter together, then spread over the base.
3️⃣ 🌰 Add the "spikes":
Immediately press flaked almonds at angles into the chocolate to resemble hedgehog spines.
4️⃣ ❄️ Chill:
Refrigerate for 2 hours until set, then cut into squares.
Serving Info:
⏱ Prep: 15 mins | ⏳ Chilling: 2 hrs | 🍴 Makes: 24 squares | 🔥 Calories: ~150 each
Tips:
✔ Biscuit swap: Use rich tea or graham crackers if you prefer.
✔ No nuts? Use chocolate sprinkles or leave plain.
✔ Storage: Keeps for a week in the fridge (if it lasts that long!).
"Retro lunchbox magic—sweet, crunchy, and delightfully odd!" 🎒✨
