Homemade Cevapcici – Spicy Balkan Delight

Ingredients:

500 g ground beef or lamb

2 garlic cloves, pressed

1 small onion, finely chopped

1 tsp salt

1 tsp black pepper

1 tsp sweet or hot paprika

1 tsp ground cumin

1 tsp oregano

1 tbsp olive oil

1 tsp mustard

1 egg (optional, for better binding)

Preparation:

In a large bowl, thoroughly mix the ground meat with the finely chopped onion, pressed garlic, salt, pepper, paprika, cumin, oregano, olive oil, and mustard. If the mixture doesn’t hold together well, add the egg for better binding. Let the mixture rest in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes β€” this enhances the flavor and makes shaping easier.

With slightly wet hands, form small sausage-like rolls, about the length of a finger. You can then either fry the cevapcici in a pan with a bit of oil until golden brown on all sides (about 10 minutes), or grill them over direct heat for 8–10 minutes until done.

They taste best served fresh with ajvar, warm flatbread, and a delicious yogurt dip. Enjoy your meal!
