🇮🇹 Sarde in Saor (Venetian Marinated Sardines)
A sweet-and-sour sardine dish with onions, vinegar, and raisins—served chilled.
Ingredients
Fresh sardines: 1.5 lbs (700 g), cleaned
Onions: 2, thinly sliced
White wine vinegar: ¾ cup (180 ml)
Pine nuts: 2 tbsp
Raisins: 3 tbsp
Olive oil: ½ cup (120 ml)
Flour: for dusting
Salt and pepper: to taste
Instructions
1️⃣ Lightly flour sardines and fry in olive oil until crisp. Set aside.
2️⃣ In the same pan, sauté onions until soft and golden.
3️⃣ Add vinegar, raisins, and pine nuts. Cook for 5 minutes.
4️⃣ Layer sardines and onion mixture in a dish.
5️⃣ Cover and marinate in the fridge for 24 hours.
6️⃣ Serve cold or at room temperature with crusty bread.
