Ingredients:

• 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
• 1/2 tsp baking soda
• 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
• 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
• 1/2 tsp salt
• 1/2 cup unsalted butter (softened)
• 1 cup granulated sugar
• 2 large eggs
• 1 tsp vanilla extract
• 1/2 cup milk
• 2 medium apples (peeled, cored, and chopped)
• 1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)
• Powdered sugar (for dusting, optional)

Directions:

1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan or a 9x9 square baking dish.
2. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
3. Cream Butter & Sugar: In a large mixing bowl, beat together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes.
4. Add Eggs & Vanilla: Beat in the eggs, one at a time, then add the vanilla extract.
5. Combine Wet & Dry Ingredients: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, alternating with the milk. Mix until just combined.
6. Add Apples & Nuts: Gently fold in the chopped apples and nuts (if using).
7. Bake: Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and spread it evenly. Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
8. Cool & Serve: Allow the cake to cool for 10-15 minutes before transferring to a wire rack. Dust with powdered sugar if desired, and serve warm.
