Ingredients:
For the donuts:
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1 1/2 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 cup buttermilk
1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
1 large egg
1 tsp vanilla extract
For the glaze:
1 cup powdered sugar
2-3 tablespoons milk
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
For the topping (optional):
Sprinkles, chopped nuts, shredded coconut, or your choice of toppings
Instructions:
Prepare the dough:In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
In another bowl, whisk together the buttermilk, melted butter, egg, and vanilla extract.
Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until a soft dough forms. Do not overmix.
Shape the donuts:Roll out the dough on a floured surface to about 1/2 inch thickness.
Use a donut cutter or two differently sized round cookie cutters (one larger and one smaller) to cut out donut shapes. Alternatively, you can shape them by hand if you don't have a cutter.
Preheat the air fryer:Preheat your air fryer to 350°F (180°C).
Air fry the donuts:Lightly grease the air fryer basket or use parchment paper or silicone mats to prevent sticking.
Place the donuts in a single layer in the air fryer basket, leaving some space between them.
Air fry at 350°F (180°C) for about 4-6 minutes per side, or until they are golden brown and cooked through. Cooking times may vary depending on your air fryer, so keep an eye on them.
Prepare the glaze:While the donuts are cooking, make the glaze by mixing powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract in a bowl until smooth. Adjust the milk or sugar as needed to achieve your desired glaze consistency.
Glaze and decorate:Once the donuts are done, remove them from the air fryer and let them cool slightly.
Dip each donut into the glaze, allowing any excess to drip off.
If you want to add toppings like sprinkles, nuts, or coconut, do so while the glaze is still wet.
Serve:Enjoy your homemade air fryer donuts while they're still warm for the best taste and texture.
