1/4 cup (50g) granulated sugar
1 tbsp (15g) baking powder
1/4 tsp (1g) salt
1/2 cup (113g) cold unsalted butter, cubed
Zest of 1 large orange
2/3 cup (160ml) heavy cream
1 large egg
1/2 tsp (2.5ml) vanilla extract
For the Glaze:
1 cup (120g) powdered sugar
2–3 tbsp (30–45ml) fresh orange juice
Directions:
Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking tray with parchment paper.
In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Stir in orange zest.
Cut in cold butter using a pastry cutter or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
In a separate bowl, whisk together heavy cream, egg, and vanilla. Pour into the dry ingredients and mix just until a dough forms.
Turn dough onto a lightly floured surface, pat into a circle about 1-inch thick, and cut into 8 wedges.
Place wedges onto the baking tray and bake for 15–18 minutes, or until golden brown. Let cool.
Whisk together powdered sugar and orange juice to make the glaze. Drizzle over cooled scones before serving.
