Homemade Kool-Aid Fruit Roll-Ups
Ingredients
1 cup Kool-Aid powder (choose your favorite flavor)
1 cup unsweetened applesauce
Optional: 1–2 tablespoons lemon juice (for added tang)
Directions
1. Preheat and Prepare:
Preheat your oven to 170°F (75°C), or set your dehydrator to the same temperature. If your oven doesn’t go that low, use the lowest setting available.
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
2. Mix the Ingredients:
In a medium bowl, whisk together the Kool-Aid powder and applesauce until smooth and evenly blended.
If desired, stir in the lemon juice for a slightly tart flavor.
3. Spread the Mixture:
Pour the mixture onto the prepared baking sheet.
Use a spatula to spread it into an even, thin layer—about ⅛ inch thick. A thinner layer will dry more quickly.
4. Dehydrate or Bake:
Oven Method: Bake for 3 to 6 hours, or until the mixture is no longer sticky and has a leathery texture. Drying time depends on oven type and mixture thickness.
Dehydrator Method: Dehydrate for 6 to 8 hours, or until dry and pliable.
5. Cool and Cut:
Allow the fruit leather to cool completely.
Once cooled, use a pizza cutter or sharp knife to cut into strips or desired shapes.
If the roll-up sticks to the parchment, lightly dampen the back of the paper with water to help it peel away more easily.
6. Roll and Store:
Roll up the strips for classic fruit roll-up presentation.
Store in an airtight container at room temperature.
