OLD-FASHIONED RED CINNAMON APPLE RINGS
4 apples, peeled and cored, sliced into 1/2" thick rings
1/4 - 1/2 cup sugar - to taste
2 cups water
1/2 cup red cinnamon candies (red hots)
Place sugar, water, and candy into a saucepan. Stir over medium heat until sugar and candies dissolve. Add apple rings. Simmer gently until transparent but not soft, turning occasionally. about 20 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool in cinnamon syrup
