The first time I made this Apple Puff Pastry Braid, it vanished in minutes! Buttery, flaky, and full of cinnamon-spiced applesβitβs as easy as it is impressive. πβ¨
π Apple Puff Pastry Braid π
π₯ Ingredients:
1 sheet puff pastry (thawed) π₯
2 medium apples, peeled and diced π
2 tbsp unsalted butter π§
2 tbsp granulated sugar π¬
1 tbsp brown sugar π¬
1 tsp cinnamon π
1 tsp cornstarch (mixed with 1 tbsp water) π
1 egg (for egg wash) π₯
Powdered sugar (for garnish) π
Directions:
Prepare the Apple Filling:
In a skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Add diced apples, granulated sugar, brown sugar, and cinnamon. Cook for 5-7 minutes until the apples soften.
Stir in the cornstarch mixture and cook for another minute until thickened. Remove from heat and let cool.
Prepare the Puff Pastry:
Preheat your oven to 400Β°F (200Β°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Roll out the puff pastry on a lightly floured surface into a rectangle. Transfer it to the prepared baking sheet.
Assemble the Braid:
Spoon the cooled apple mixture down the center of the puff pastry, leaving 3-4 inches on each side.
Cut diagonal slits along the sides of the pastry, about 1 inch apart. Fold the strips over the filling, alternating sides to create a braided look.
Add the Finishing Touches:
Brush the braid with egg wash (1 egg whisked with 1 tbsp water).
Bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown and puffed.
Garnish and Serve:
Let cool slightly, then dust with powdered sugar before serving.
