Ingredients:
6 medium apples (Granny Smith, Fuji, or Gala work best)
2 cups granulated sugar
1 cup water
Β½ cup light corn syrup
1 teaspoon vinegar
1 packet Kool-Aid powder (any flavorβcherry, grape, tropical punch, etc.)
Red food coloring (optional)
Wooden sticks (popsicle sticks or skewers)
Butter (for greasing parchment paper or surface)
Directions:
Wash and thoroughly dry the apples. Remove stems and insert a wooden stick into the center of each apple. Set aside on a buttered parchment-lined surface.
In a heavy-bottomed saucepan, combine sugar, water, corn syrup, and vinegar. Stir over medium heat until sugar dissolves.
Attach a candy thermometer to the side of the pan and bring the mixture to a boil without stirring. Allow it to reach 300Β°F (hard crack stage).
Remove from heat and immediately stir in the Kool-Aid powder and food coloring, if using, for extra vibrancy. Swirl gently to create a marbled effect.
Carefully dip each apple into the hot candy mixture, rotating to coat completely. Let excess drip off and place apples on the greased parchment paper.
