Ingredients 🛒
2 slices of bread (sourdough, rye, or ciabatta work great) 🍞
1 medium onion, thinly sliced 🧅
1 tablespoon butter 🧈
1 teaspoon olive oil 🫒
1 teaspoon balsamic vinegar (optional, for extra depth) 🍷
1/2 teaspoon sugar (helps caramelization) 🍬
Salt & pepper to taste 🧂
2 slices cheese (Swiss, cheddar, or provolone) 🧀
Protein of choice (grilled chicken, turkey, roast beef, or a plant-based alternative) 🍗
1 tablespoon mayo or mustard (for extra creaminess & flavor) 🍶
Instructions 👩🍳
1️⃣ Caramelize the Onions:
Heat butter and olive oil in a pan over medium-low heat.
Add sliced onions, sprinkle with sugar, salt, and pepper, and stir occasionally.
Cook for 20-25 minutes until onions are deep golden brown. Stir in balsamic vinegar for extra richness.
2️⃣ Prepare the Sandwich:
Spread mayo or mustard on one side of each slice of bread.
Layer on cheese, protein of choice, and caramelized onions.
Top with the second slice of bread.

Heat a pan over medium heat and melt a little butter.
