Loaded Fried Chicken Cheese Fries ππ
Ingredients
For the Fries:
1 bag (28 oz) frozen French fries (or make your own)
Salt, to taste
Optional: garlic powder, paprika for extra flavor
For the Fried Chicken:
2 boneless chicken breasts (or thighs), cut into bite-size chunks
1 cup buttermilk
1 tsp hot sauce (optional)
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup cornstarch
1 tsp paprika
1 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
Salt & black pepper, to taste
Oil, for frying
For the Cheese Sauce:
2 tbsp butter
2 tbsp flour
1 cup milk (preferably whole milk)
1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese (or a mix of cheddar & Monterey Jack)
Salt & pepper to taste
Toppings (customize as you like):
Cooked crumbled bacon
Chopped green onions
Pickled jalapeΓ±os
Sour cream or ranch drizzle
Diced tomatoes or pico de gallo
Instructions
1. Prepare the Fries
Cook fries according to package directions or fry them for extra crispiness.
Season with salt (and optional garlic powder/paprika).
Set aside on a tray lined with paper towels.
2. Make the Fried Chicken
In a bowl, combine buttermilk and hot sauce. Add chicken and let marinate for at least 30 minutes (or up to overnight).
In a separate bowl, mix flour, cornstarch, and seasonings.
Heat oil in a deep skillet or pot to 350Β°F (175Β°C).
Remove chicken from marinade, dredge in flour mix, and fry in batches until golden and crispy (about 4-6 minutes per batch).
Drain on paper towels.
3. Make the Cheese Sauce
In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Whisk in flour and cook for 1 minute.
Slowly add milk while whisking until smooth. Cook until slightly thickened.
Stir in shredded cheese until melted and creamy.
Season with salt and pepper.
4. Assemble
Spread fries on a large serving dish or sheet pan.
Drizzle generously with cheese sauce.
Top with fried chicken pieces.
Add bacon, jalapeΓ±os, green onions, and any other toppings.
Finish with a drizzle of ranch or sour cream if desired.
