Chocolate ice cream:

ingredients
2 cups heavy cream
1 cup whole milk
¾ cup granulated sugar
½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
4 oz semisweet or dark chocolate, chopped
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
pinch of salt

instructions

1. heat the base
in a medium saucepan, whisk together the cocoa powder, sugar, salt, milk, and cream.
place over medium heat and cook until warm, but not boiling.

2. add chocolate
remove from heat and stir in chopped chocolate until fully melted and smooth.

3. cool the mixture
stir in vanilla extract. let the mixture cool to room temperature, then refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight.

4. churn
pour the chilled mixture into your ice cream maker and churn according to the manufacturer’s instructions (usually 20–25 minutes).

5. freeze
transfer the churned ice cream to an airtight container and freeze for 2–4 hours until firm.
