🍎 Old Fashioned Apple Fritters 🍎
Ingredients
For the Fritters:
2 cups all-purpose flour
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1 tablespoon baking powder
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon salt
2/3 cup milk
2 large eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 medium apples (such as Granny Smith or Honeycrisp), peeled, cored, and diced
Vegetable oil, for frying
For the Glaze:
1 cup powdered sugar
1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
2–3 tablespoons milk
Instructions
Prepare the Batter: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt. In a separate bowl, beat the milk, eggs, and vanilla extract until smooth. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Gently fold in the diced apples.
Heat the Oil: Pour vegetable oil into a deep skillet or saucepan, filling it about 2 inches deep. Heat the oil over medium heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). Use a candy thermometer to monitor the temperature.
Fry the Fritters: Drop spoonfuls of the batter (about 2 tablespoons each) into the hot oil, being careful not to overcrowd the pan. Fry the fritters for 2–3 minutes per side, or until golden brown and cooked through. Remove them with a slotted spoon and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
Make the Glaze: In a small bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and milk until smooth. Adjust the milk as needed to achieve your desired consistency.
Glaze and Serve: While the fritters are still warm, drizzle the glaze generously over the top. Allow the glaze to set slightly before serving. Enjoy these fritters warm for the best flavor and texture!
