The Best Homemade Kombucha Recipe 🌟🍶
ingredients:
- 1 gallon (3.8 liters) filtered water
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 8 bags black tea (or green tea)
- 1 cup starter tea (plain unflavored kombucha from a previous batch or store-bought)
- 1 SCOBY (symbiotic culture of bacteria and yeast)
- Glass jar (1-gallon size)
- Cloth cover and rubber band
directions:
1. Bring the water to a boil in a large pot. Add sugar and stir until dissolved. Remove from heat.
2. Steep tea bags in the sugar water for 10-15 minutes. Remove tea bags and let the tea cool to room temperature.
3. Pour the cooled tea into the glass jar. Add starter tea and gently place the SCOBY on top.
4. Cover the jar with a clean cloth and secure it with a rubber band. Place the jar in a warm, dark place.
5. Allow the kombucha to ferment for 7-10 days. Taste after 7 days; if it's tangy enough, it's ready.
6. Remove the SCOBY and save some kombucha as starter tea for the next batch. Transfer the rest to bottles for a second fermentation with optional flavorings.
