🍍 Hawaiian Roll French Toast 🍯
Ingredients:
1 (12 count) package Hawaiian sweet rolls
4 large eggs
1 cup half-and-half
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Pinch of salt
For the Topping:
1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
1/4 cup packed light brown sugar
1 tablespoon pure maple syrup
2 tablespoons powdered sugar, for dusting (optional)
Instructions:
Prepare the Rolls: Grease an 8x8 inch or similar baking dish. Without separating the rolls, slice the entire sheet of connected Hawaiian rolls in half horizontally, creating one large top and one large bottom slab. Place the bottom slab in the prepared baking dish.
Make the Custard: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, half-and-half, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt until the mixture is smooth and well-combined.
Assemble: Slowly and evenly pour the custard mixture over the bottom slab of rolls in the dish. Place the top slab of rolls over the bottom, creating a sandwich. Press down gently to help the custard soak in.
Create the Glaze: In a small bowl, stir together the melted butter, brown sugar, and maple syrup until it forms a smooth glaze. Pour this glaze evenly over the top of the rolls.
Rest and Preheat: Allow the casserole to rest on the counter for at least 30 minutes, or cover and refrigerate overnight. When ready to bake, preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
Bake: Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and puffed, and the center is set.
Serve: Let it cool for 5-10 minutes before slicing. Dust with powdered sugar just before serving, if desired.
