Another playfully named recipe from the 70s. Hanky Pankies are a classic Midwestern appetizer featuring a savory blend of meat and cheese spread on cocktail rye or pumpernickel bread and toasted.
HANKY PANKIES
1 lb. hot sausage
1 lb. ground beef
1 lb. Velveeta cheese
1 tsp. oregano
1 loaf pantry rye bread
Brown sausage, ground beef and oregano. Drain and add cheese. Melt with beef and sausage. Spoon onto bread and place on cookie sheet to freeze. When ready to serve, place in a 350°F oven until mixture is warm or cheese mixture has melted.
