Grilled Steak Sandwich with Caramelized Onions and Peppers
Ingredients:
1 lb flank or skirt steak
Salt and pepper, to taste
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp smoked paprika
1 tbsp olive oil
1 large onion, thinly sliced
1 red bell pepper, thinly sliced
1 yellow bell pepper, thinly sliced
2 tbsp butter
2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
2 sandwich rolls or hoagie buns, split and toasted
Optional: provolone or mozzarella cheese slices
Instructions:
Season Steak: Rub steak with salt, pepper, garlic powder, smoked paprika, and a drizzle of olive oil. Let sit at room temperature for 15–20 minutes.
Grill Steak: Preheat grill or skillet over high heat. Grill steak 3–4 minutes per side (medium-rare to medium). Rest for 5–10 minutes, then slice thinly against the grain.
Caramelize Onions & Peppers: In a skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Add onions and peppers, season with a pinch of salt, and cook for 15–20 minutes, stirring occasionally until soft and caramelized. Stir in Worcestershire sauce during the last 2 minutes.
Toast Bread: Lightly toast buns or rolls in a skillet or under a broiler until golden.
Assemble: Layer sliced steak, caramelized onions and peppers, and optional cheese into toasted rolls. Press lightly and slice in half if desired.
Serve: Serve warm, wrapped in parchment or foil for a street-style feel.
