Perfectly Seared Medium-Rare Steak with Roasted Garlic and Thyme
Ingredients:
2 bone-in ribeye steaks (or any cut of your choice)
2 tbsp olive oil
Salt and freshly cracked black pepper, to taste
4-6 garlic cloves (unpeeled, for roasting)
Fresh thyme sprigs (about 4-6 sprigs)
2 tbsp butter
1-2 tbsp fresh parsley (for garnish)
Instructions:
1. Prepare the Roasted Garlic:
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
Place the garlic bulbs on a piece of foil, drizzling them with a little olive oil.
Wrap the garlic in the foil and roast for 30-40 minutes, or until the cloves are soft and golden.
Once roasted, squeeze the garlic cloves out of their skins and set aside.
2. Prepare the Steaks:
While the garlic is roasting, take the steaks out of the refrigerator and let them rest for 15-20 minutes to come to room temperature.
Season the steaks generously with salt and freshly cracked black pepper on both sides.
3. Sear the Steaks:
Heat a large cast-iron skillet or heavy pan over medium-high heat. Add olive oil and heat until shimmering.
Place the steaks in the pan and sear for 3-4 minutes on each side, or until a deep golden-brown crust forms.
In the final minute of cooking, add the butter and thyme to the pan. Baste the steaks with the melted butter using a spoon, allowing the flavors to infuse.
For medium-rare, cook the steak until the internal temperature reaches 130-135°F (54-57°C). Adjust cooking time for desired doneness.
Remove the steaks from the pan and allow them to rest for 5-10 minutes.
4. Assemble the Plate:
Slice the steaks against the grain into beautiful, tender slices, making sure to display the juicy medium-rare interior.
Arrange the slices neatly on a rustic wooden serving board.
Place the roasted garlic bulbs and fresh thyme sprigs around the steak for added flavor and aesthetic appeal.
5. Serve:
Garnish with fresh parsley for a pop of color and freshness.
Serve immediately, paired with your choice of sides such as roasted vegetables or mashed potatoes.
Serving Suggestion:
The simplicity of the roasted garlic and thyme elevates the steak's flavor. This presentation is perfect for a relaxed yet gourmet dining experience.
