Texas Sheet Cake

Ingredients:

For the Cake:
2 cups all-purpose flour
2 cups granulated sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 cup unsalted butter
1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1 cup water
1/2 cup buttermilk
2 large eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

For the Frosting:
1/2 cup unsalted butter
1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1/4 cup milk
3 1/2 cups powdered sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 cup chopped pecans or mini chocolate chips (optional)

Directions:

Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13-inch baking pan.

In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, salt, and baking soda.

In a saucepan, combine butter, cocoa powder, and water. Bring to a boil and pour into the dry ingredients. Stir to combine.

Add in buttermilk, eggs, and vanilla. Mix until smooth.

Pour batter into prepared pan and bake for 25-28 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

While cake bakes, make the frosting: In a saucepan, melt butter with cocoa powder and milk. Bring just to a boil, then remove from heat.

Stir in powdered sugar and vanilla until smooth. Mix in pecans or chocolate chips if using.

Pour warm frosting over warm cake and spread evenly. Let cool before slicing.
