π SNAKES! It is that time of year! Spring has sprung and everyone is turning to the outdoors more and more, including unwanted guest. Make sure you check all your chairs and cushions to see what critters or snakes may have decided that they wanted to retreat there. Watch closely when you are picking things up in your yard too.
Springtime is the most active and stressful time for the snake. It is hungry after hibernation, needs to shed its skin, and reproduce. This is the most likely time our pets may come in contact with them, but it can happen very late into Autumn as well.
Snakes are most active in the early mornings on spring and summer days when the sun is warming the earth. Snakes turn in for the evening, sleeping at night and may find sleep in your cushions!
Some snakes, like copperheads and water snakes, are active during the day and at night. But again, most species prefer to be active at dusk and night.
Snakes are attracted to the same things we are: food, water, and shelter.
Snakes donβt like sulfur, vinegar, cinnamon oil, smoke and spices like cloves and cloves oil, and foul, bitter, and ammonia-like scents are usually the most common and effective smells against snakes. You can also try sprinkling cayenne pepper or coffee grounds, which have been known to repel snakes due to their strong smells. However, Moth Balls do NOT keep snakes away.
Certain plants have been known to repel snakes due to their strong smells, such as marigold, wormwood, and lemongrass.
Sprinkling Epsom salt around your home or garden will create a strong odor snakes won't want to come close to. Oils: Certain essential oils, such as peppermint and cinnamon oil, can help keep snakes away from your property.
Snakes will retreat when sprayed directly with the oils and ingredients listed above and will leave confined spaces when these oils are introduced in the area they are in.
Garlic and onions not only work when planted in your yard, but they also work as a natural snake repellent product as they both contain sulfonic acid which is known to repel snakes. Chop up both garlic and onions and mix them with rock salt. Sprinkle the mixture around your yard to repel snakes.
Clapping your hands and yelling will not scare a snake off. Snakes have an inner ear structure, but they donβt have eardrums, so they don't βhearβ in the conventional sense.
Like we do. Snakes instead sense vibrations in the ground.
Cats, turkeys and guinea hens are natural snake predators and will kill snakes.
