Sweet Onion Sauce

Ingredients:

1 medium sweet onion, finely chopped
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
1/4 cup water
1 tablespoon cornstarch
1 tablespoon soy sauce
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1/4 teaspoon celery seed (optional)

Directions:

In a saucepan over medium heat, sauté the chopped sweet onion in vegetable oil until soft and translucent (about 5–7 minutes).
In a separate bowl, whisk together sugar, vinegar, water, soy sauce, garlic powder, salt, pepper, and cornstarch until smooth.
Pour the mixture into the saucepan with the onions and stir continuously.
Bring to a gentle simmer and cook for 3–5 minutes, until the sauce thickens and becomes glossy.
Let cool slightly, then transfer to a blender and blend until smooth (optional for a silky texture).
Store in an airtight jar in the fridge for up to 1 week. Serve warm or chilled.
