🍎Apple Snickerdoodle Dump Cake 🍰
Ingredients
For the Apple Filling:
4 cups thinly sliced peeled apples (about 3 medium apples, such as Honeycrisp or Granny Smith)
½ cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg (optional, for extra warmth)
1 tablespoon lemon juice (to prevent browning and add brightness)
For the Cake Layer:
1 (15.25-ounce) box yellow or white cake mix
½ cup unsalted butter, melted
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
2 tablespoons granulated sugar
Optional Toppings:
Vanilla ice cream or whipped cream
Caramel sauce
Instructions
Preheat and Prep:
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with cooking spray or butter.
Prepare the Apple Filling:
In a large bowl, toss the sliced apples with granulated sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg (if using), and lemon juice until evenly coated. Spread the apple mixture evenly across the bottom of the prepared baking dish.
Add the Cake Mix:
Sprinkle the dry cake mix evenly over the apples, ensuring the entire surface is covered. Do not stir—it will form a delicious crust as it bakes.
Create the Cinnamon-Sugar Topping:
In a small bowl, mix together the melted butter, cinnamon, and granulated sugar. Drizzle this mixture evenly over the cake mix layer, spreading it slightly with a spoon to cover as much surface area as possible.
Bake Until Golden:
Bake the cake for 45–50 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and bubbly around the edges. The apples should be tender when pierced with a fork.
Cool and Serve:
Let the cake cool for 10–15 minutes before serving. For an extra indulgent treat, serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream, drizzled with caramel sauce.
