Tasty and Delicious Barbecue Skewers
These flavorful barbecue skewers feature tender, marinated meat grilled to perfection, offering a delightful combination of smoky, tangy, and slightly sweet flavors.
Ingredients:
½ cup light sodium soy sauce
½ cup lemon or lime juice
½ cup ketchup
3 tablespoons dark brown sugar
2 tablespoons garlic powder
1 teaspoon ground black pepper
1–2 teaspoons salt
1 can lime soda or Sprite
5 pounds meat of your choice (chicken or beef sirloin recommended)
Instructions:
Prepare the Marinade:
In a large mixing bowl, combine soy sauce, lemon or lime juice, ketchup, dark brown sugar, garlic powder, black pepper, salt, and lime soda. Stir until the sugar is fully dissolved.
Marinate the Meat:
Cut the meat into bite-sized chunks, approximately 1 to 1½ inches thick.
Add the meat pieces to the marinade, ensuring each piece is well-coated.
Cover the bowl and refrigerate for at least 3 hours, preferably overnight, to allow the flavors to meld.
Prepare the Skewers:
If using wooden skewers, soak them in water for at least 30 minutes to prevent burning during grilling.
Preheat the Grill:
Set your grill to medium heat and lightly oil the grates to prevent sticking.
Assemble the Skewers:
Thread the marinated meat chunks onto the skewers, leaving small gaps between each piece to ensure even cooking.
Grill the Skewers:
Place the assembled skewers on the preheated grill.
Cook for about 4–5 minutes per side, rotating occasionally.
Baste the skewers with the leftover marinade during grilling for enhanced flavor.
Ensure the meat is fully cooked and has a slight char on the edges.
Serve:
Once cooked, remove the skewers from the grill and let them rest for a few minutes.
Serve hot, optionally garnished with fresh herbs or accompanied by your favorite dipping sauces.
Tips:
Meat Choices: While chicken and beef sirloin are recommended, feel free to experiment with other meats like pork or lamb.
Vegetable Additions: For added variety, consider threading vegetables such as bell peppers, onions, or cherry tomatoes between the meat chunks.
Serving Suggestions: These skewers pair well with sides like coleslaw, potato salad, or grilled vegetables.
Safety Note: If basting with the leftover marinade, ensure it is boiled first to eliminate any bacteria from the raw meat.
Enjoy your meal!
