Coffee Cinnamon Rolls with Coffee Frosting
Ingredients
For the Dough:
- 1 cup warm milk (about 110°F)
- 2 ¼ teaspoons active dry yeast
- ½ cup granulated sugar
- 1/3 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 4 to 4 ½ cups all-purpose flour
For the Filling:
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
- 1 tablespoon instant coffee powder
For the Coffee Frosting:
- 4 ounces cream cheese, softened
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 tablespoon instant coffee dissolved in 2 tablespoons hot water
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
Make the Dough:
1. Activate Yeast: In a bowl, combine warm milk and yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.
2. Mix Ingredients: Add sugar, melted butter, eggs, and salt. Gradually add flour, mixing until a dough forms.
3. Knead Dough: Knead dough on a floured surface for about 6-8 minutes until smooth and elastic.
4. First Rise: Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
Prepare the Filling:
1. Mix softened butter, brown sugar, ground cinnamon, and coffee powder in a bowl until well combined.
Assemble Rolls:
1. Roll Out Dough: Roll dough into a rectangle (about 16x12 inches).
2. Spread Filling: Spread the filling evenly over the dough.
3. Roll and Cut: Roll up the dough tightly, starting from a long side. Cut into 12 rolls.
4. Second Rise: Place rolls in a greased baking dish. Cover and let rise until nearly doubled, about 30 minutes.
Bake:
1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
2. Bake rolls for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
Make the Frosting:
1. Beat the cream cheese and butter together until smooth.
2. Add dissolved coffee, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract. Mix until creamy.
Frost:
1. Spread frosting over warm cinnamon rolls.
