Homemade Hummingbird Nectar
See Recipe in content ⬇️ Below!

Do you want to attract hummingbirds? Use this natural recipe to attract them to your yard or garden. Most hummingbirds return each year to where they hatched. Hummingbirds have a strong memory for locations where they have found food in the past. Most of these birds DO return to the same feeders or gardens to breed year after year. They often stop at the same spots along the way and arrive on the same date too.

Studies have shown that hummingbirds can remember migration routes and every flower they've ever visited. They can also figure out how long to wait between visits so the flowers have time to generate more nectar. They can even recognize humans!

~~INGREDIENTS~~
4 cups very hot tap water
1 cup white granulated sugar

~~INSTRUCTIONS~~
Boil your water on the stove for 1 minute to get it hot enough to melt the sugar completely to keep the sugar from settling.
Remove the water from the stove and stir in the sugar. Stir until the sugar completely dissolves.
Then the sugar mixture to come to room temperature.
Fill your humming bird feeder as with any other nectar.
Store any leftover sugar water in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.

Note:
Please do NOT use red dye or purchase nectar with red dyes. Red dye is harmful to hummingbirds.
Only used granulated sugar.
I also keep fresh water near their feeders for them also. The fresh water has to be changed out frequently especially if you gave a lot of trees like I do. This photo was taken at the end of the day, and by then, my water bath looks like the picture below ⬇️. So every morning when you are taking care of your herbs, flowers, yard and vegetables, just spray it out and apply fresh water.

It's recommended that feeders be changed and thoroughly cleaned every other day, but it is important that they are cleaned and refilled at least twice a week in hot weather (summer) and once a week in cooler weather (spring/fall) to prevent the growth of mold.
