π Ingredients:
β For the Onion:
1 large sweet onion π§
(Vidalia works best!)
1 cup all-purpose flour πΎ
1 cup cornstarch π½
1 tsp salt π§
1 tsp black pepper β¨
1 tsp garlic powder π§
1 tsp smoked paprika πΆ
Β½ tsp cayenne pepper (optional for heat) π₯
2 large eggs π₯
1 cup milk π₯
Vegetable oil for frying π’
β For the Dipping Sauce:
Β½ cup mayonnaise π₯
2 tbsp ketchup π
1 tbsp horseradish (or Dijon mustard) πΆ
Β½ tsp smoked paprika β¨
Β½ tsp garlic powder π§
ΒΌ tsp black pepper π₯
π©βπ³ Instructions:
1οΈβ£ Prepare the Onion: Cut off the top (not the root), peel the onion, and place root-side down. Carefully cut into 12-16 wedges, stopping Β½ inch from the root to keep it intact. Gently spread the petals apart.
2οΈβ£ Mix the Dry Ingredients: In a bowl, whisk together flour, cornstarch, salt, pepper, garlic powder, paprika, and cayenne.
3οΈβ£ Make the Batter: In another bowl, whisk eggs and milk.
4οΈβ£ Coat the Onion: Dip the onion in the dry mix, then the egg mixture, then back into the dry mix. Make sure every petal is well coated!
5οΈβ£ Fry Until Golden: Heat oil in a deep pot to 375Β°F (190Β°C). Carefully lower the onion into the oil root-side up and fry for 3-4 minutes per side, until crispy and golden brown.
6οΈβ£ Make the Sauce: Mix all dipping sauce ingredients in a small bowl.
