🍬 Homemade Kool-Aid Licorice Ropes 🌈
Ingredients
1 cup granulated sugar
½ cup light corn syrup
¼ cup water
2 tablespoons unflavored gelatin
¼ cup Kool-Aid powder (choose your favorite flavor)
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract (optional, for added depth)
Food coloring (optional, to enhance the color)
Instructions
Prepare the Gelatin:
In a small bowl, sprinkle the unflavored gelatin over ¼ cup of water. Let it sit for 5–10 minutes until the gelatin softens and blooms.
Cook the Sugar Mixture:
In a medium saucepan, combine the sugar, light corn syrup, and ¼ cup of water. Heat over medium heat, stirring gently until the sugar dissolves. Once dissolved, stop stirring and bring the mixture to a boil. Use a candy thermometer to monitor the temperature—cook until it reaches 240°F (soft-ball stage).
Add Flavor and Color:
Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in the bloomed gelatin until fully dissolved. Add the Kool-Aid powder, vanilla extract (if using), and a few drops of food coloring (if desired). Mix well to ensure the color and flavor are evenly distributed.
Shape the Licorice Ropes:
Pour the warm mixture onto a silicone mat or a lightly greased surface. Allow it to cool slightly until it’s safe to handle but still pliable. Dust your hands with powdered sugar to prevent sticking, then roll the mixture into long ropes or twist into fun shapes.
Set and Dry:
Place the shaped licorice ropes on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Let them dry at room temperature for 4–6 hours, or until firm and chewy.
Store and Enjoy:
Once set, cut the ropes into your desired lengths and store them in an airtight container. They’ll stay fresh for up to a week—if they last that long!
