Cream Puffs from Choux Pastry
Grandma’s Buchteln: A Bun Full of Happiness and Sweet Memories
Ingredients:
500g flour
250ml milk
100g sugar
1 packet of yeast
100g butter
1 egg
A pinch of salt
Jam or fruit filling (e.g., apricot or plum)
Instructions:
In a large bowl, mix the flour, sugar, and pinch of salt well. This is the base for our delicious Buchteln!
In a separate bowl, gently warm the milk and dissolve the yeast in it. This activates the yeast, which makes the dough rise.
Now add the yeast mixture to the flour mixture! Add the melted butter and the egg, and knead everything together until you have a smooth dough. It might take some effort, but it’s worth it!
Cover the dough and let it rise in a warm place for about an hour, until it has doubled in size. The anticipation grows!
Once the dough has risen, divide it into equal portions. Flatten each portion and put a generous spoonful of jam in the middle.
Fold the dough around the filling and shape it into nice, round balls.
Place the Buchteln in a greased baking dish and let them rest for another 30 minutes. Patience is key here!
Meanwhile, preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F). Bake the Buchteln for 25-30 minutes, until they are golden brown and fragrant.
Serve warm, possibly dusted with powdered sugar, and enjoy! Feel the childhood and coziness in every bite!
