Ingredients
• 4 slices white bread
• 4 slices ham
• 1 cup (100g) Gruyère or Emmental cheese, shredded
• 2 tbsp butter, softened
• 1 cup (240ml) milk
• 2 tbsp flour
• Pinch of nutmeg
• Salt & pepper, to taste
• 2 eggs
Instructions
1️⃣ Make the Béchamel Sauce:
Melt 1 tbsp butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir in flour, cooking for 1 minute. Gradually whisk in milk, stirring until thickened. Season with nutmeg, salt, and pepper.
2️⃣ Assemble the Sandwich:
Butter one side of each bread slice. Layer ham and shredded cheese between two slices, keeping the buttered side out.
3️⃣ Toast the Sandwich:
Heat a skillet over medium heat and toast the sandwich on both sides until golden brown and crispy.
4️⃣ Top with Béchamel & Bake:
Transfer to a baking sheet, spread béchamel sauce on top, sprinkle with extra cheese, and bake at 375°F (190°C) for 5-7 minutes until bubbly.
5️⃣ Fry the Eggs:
In a skillet, melt 1 tbsp butter and fry the eggs sunny-side-up.
