Apple Fries
Ingredients:
For the Apple Fries:
4 large apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup sparkling water or club soda
Vegetable oil, for frying
For the Cinnamon Sugar Coating:
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
For the Caramel Dipping Sauce:
1/2 cup caramel sauce (store-bought or homemade)
Directions:
Peel, core, and slice the apples into thin, fry-shaped pieces.
In a bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt, then gradually pour in the sparkling water, stirring until the batter is smooth.
Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet or deep fryer to 350°F (175°C).
Dip each apple slice into the batter, letting the excess drip off.
Carefully place the battered apple slices into the hot oil and fry in batches, turning occasionally, until golden brown and crispy, about 3-4 minutes.
Remove the apple fries with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
Combine the granulated sugar and ground cinnamon in a shallow bowl, then toss the warm apple fries in the mixture until well coated.
Serve the apple fries warm with caramel dipping sauce on the side.
Servings: 4-6
