Ingredients:
For the cake:
1 box chocolate cake mix
3 large eggs
1 cup unsalted butter, melted (divided)
1 tsp vanilla extract
For the gooey butter layer:
8 oz cream cheese, softened
2 large eggs
1 tsp vanilla extract
4 cups powdered sugar
Optional: Chocolate shavings for garnish
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking pan.
Combine the cake mix, 1 egg, 1/2 cup melted butter, and 1 tsp vanilla extract until well blended. Press into the bottom of the prepared baking pan.
In a separate bowl, beat the cream cheese until smooth. Add 2 eggs and vanilla, mix well. Gradually blend in the powdered sugar. Slowly mix in the remaining 1/2 cup melted butter. Pour this mixture over the cake layer in the pan.
Bake for 40-45 minutes, until the edges are browned. The center should be slightly gooey. Cool cake completely on a wire rack.
Garnish with chocolate shavings before serving if desired.
