Old School Chocolate Traybake Cake π«β¨
This classic chocolate traybake is a nostalgic favourite, reminiscent of school dinners! With a soft, chocolatey sponge topped with rich icing and sprinkles, itβs perfect for any occasion.
Ingredients:
For the Cake:
π« Self-Raising Flour: 200g
π₯ Cocoa Powder: 30g
π§ Baking Powder: 1 tsp
π§ Salt: A pinch
π§ Unsalted Butter: 200g, softened
π Caster Sugar: 200g
π₯ Eggs: 4 large
π₯ Milk: 2 tbsp
For the Icing:
π« Icing Sugar: 150g
π₯ Cocoa Powder: 2 tbsp
π₯ Milk: 2β3 tbsp (to achieve a spreadable consistency)
π Chocolate Sprinkles: To decorate
Method:
1. π₯ Preheat the Oven:
Preheat your oven to 180Β°C (fan). Grease and line a 20x30cm rectangular traybake tin with baking paper.
2. π³ Make the Batter:
In a bowl, sift together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
In a separate large bowl, beat the butter and sugar together until pale and fluffy. Add the eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
Gradually fold in the dry ingredients, alternating with the milk, until you have a smooth batter.
3. π° Bake the Cake:
Pour the batter into the prepared tin and smooth the top. Bake for 25β30 minutes, or until a skewer inserted into the centre comes out clean.
Allow the cake to cool completely in the tin.
4. π« Make the Icing:
In a bowl, sift together the icing sugar and cocoa powder. Gradually add the milk, a tablespoon at a time, until the icing is thick but spreadable.
5. π Decorate the Cake:
Spread the icing evenly over the cooled cake. Sprinkle generously with chocolate sprinkles.

Cut the cake into squares and enjoy!
