Surf and Turf with Garlic Butter Lobster Tail and Filet Mignon
Ingredients:
2 filet mignon steaks (6 oz each)
2 lobster tails, thawed if frozen
2 tbsp unsalted butter (for searing steaks)
4 tbsp unsalted butter (for garlic butter)
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 tbsp fresh lemon juice
2 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
1 tbsp olive oil (for searing steaks)
1 bunch asparagus, trimmed
Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
1 lb Yukon Gold potatoes, peeled and cubed
1/2 cup whole milk (for mashed potatoes)
3 tbsp heavy cream (for mashed potatoes)
2 tbsp unsalted butter (for mashed potatoes)
Instructions:
1. Prepare the Mashed Potatoes:
Boil the peeled and cubed potatoes in salted water until fork-tender, about 15-20 minutes. Drain well.
Return the potatoes to the pot and mash with a potato masher or ricer. Stir in the milk, heavy cream, and butter until smooth and creamy. Season with salt and pepper. Set aside, keeping warm.
2. Roast the Asparagus:
Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Toss the asparagus spears with olive oil, salt, and pepper.
Spread the asparagus in a single layer on a baking sheet and roast for 12-15 minutes, until tender and slightly charred.
3. Cook the Lobster Tails:
Preheat the broiler. Using kitchen shears, carefully cut the lobster tails down the middle of the shell and gently pull the meat out, leaving the tail end attached.
Place the lobster tails on a baking sheet, drizzle with melted butter, and sprinkle with salt and pepper.
Broil the lobster tails for 6-8 minutes, or until the meat is opaque and slightly browned.
4. Sear the Filet Mignon:
Heat a cast-iron skillet over medium-high heat and add olive oil.
Season the filet mignon steaks with salt and pepper on both sides. Once the skillet is hot, add the steaks and sear for 4-5 minutes per side for medium-rare (adjust time for desired doneness).
During the last 2 minutes of cooking, add 2 tbsp of butter to the skillet along with minced garlic. Baste the steaks with the melted garlic butter as they cook.
5. Prepare Garlic Butter for Lobster:
In a small saucepan, melt 2 tbsp of butter over low heat. Add minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant. Stir in the lemon juice and remove from heat.
6. Assemble the Plate:
On a large rustic cast-iron skillet or plate, arrange the creamy mashed potatoes, roasted asparagus spears, and the seared filet mignon.
Place the garlic butter lobster tail beside the steak, drizzle with the prepared garlic butter, and garnish the potatoes and lobster with freshly chopped parsley.
7. Serve and Enjoy:
Serve your luxurious surf and turf dinner immediately, and enjoy the rich, savory combination of perfectly cooked steak, succulent lobster, and creamy mashed potatoes.
