Filipino Style Beef Steak and Onions
Ingredients:
2 lbs sirloin, sliced thinly
1/4 cup soy sauce
1/4 cup lemon juice
1 onion, sliced
6 garlic, peeled and minced
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1 teaspoon sugar
1/4 cup oil
1 cup water
Salt to taste if needed
Garnish:
1 onion, peeled and sliced into rings
Steps:
In a large bowl, combine beef, lemon juice, soy sauce, sugar and black pepper. Massage marinade into the meat and marinate for about 30 minutes.
In a pan over high heat, heat oil. Add beef and cook for about 3 to 5 minutes per side. Save the marinade.
Reserved all the meat juices during frying. Remove the browned meat.
In the pan, add a little oil, sautee onions and garlic, and cook until softened. Add browned beef to pan.
Add reserved marinade and meat juices. Add water and bring to a boil.
Lower heat, cover and simmer for about 35-45 minutes. Cook until meat is fork-tender and the juice is reduced into half. Season with salt and pepper if needed. Garnish with extra slices of onions.
