Its time to start thinking about #holidaybaking! I know, I can't believe it either. Especially if you plan to culture your fruitcake because you want to "feed" the baked fruitcake with alcohol for a minimum of 2 weeks to 3 months. Culturing your fruitcake is the method most of our grandmothers and mothers used for optimal flavor, but you can also marinate by soaking the dried fruit in alcohol for at least 12 to 24 hours before making and baking the cake. This step plumps and softens the fruit while infusing it with flavor. If you really want your fruitcake to light up the holidaysyou can both marinate and "culture" your fruitcake. #Whopee My mum was famous for her holiday fruitcake, and she was a believer in doing both methods! She would wrap those cakes cheesecloth then in foil and place them in tins, and hide them away in the cool, velvet lined cuppard of the dining room buffet. Once a week she would pul out the aged bottle of Irish whiskey and feed them like they were her babies..lol, this went on for 3 months. Now, this isn't her recipe below, but one of many fruitcake recipes I happen to have. I will dig mum's recipe out when i have a chance. :)
