Grilled Steak with Caramelized Onions and Fries Recipe
This classic steak dish combines a perfectly grilled, juicy steak topped with sweet caramelized onions, served alongside crispy golden fries and a creamy dipping sauce. It's a simple yet elegant meal that's perfect for any occasion.
Ingredients
For the Steak:
1 ribeye or sirloin steak (about 1-inch thick)
1 tbsp olive oil
Salt and freshly ground black pepper
Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)
For the Caramelized Onions:
1 large onion, thinly sliced
1 tbsp butter
1 tsp sugar (optional, for sweetness)
For the Fries:
2 large potatoes, cut into fries
2 tbsp olive oil
Salt and pepper to taste
For the Dipping Sauce:
½ cup mayonnaise
1 tsp Dijon mustard
1 tsp lemon juice
Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Fries
Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
Toss the potato fries with olive oil, salt, and pepper. Spread them on a baking sheet in a single layer.
Bake for 25-30 minutes, flipping halfway through, until crispy and golden.
Step 2: Cook the Steak
Rub the steak with olive oil, salt, and pepper on both sides.
Heat a grill pan or skillet over high heat. Sear the steak for 3-4 minutes per side for medium-rare (adjust for your preferred doneness). Let it rest for 5 minutes before serving.
Step 3: Caramelize the Onions
In the same skillet, melt butter over medium heat.
Add the sliced onions and cook slowly, stirring occasionally, for 15-20 minutes until golden brown and soft. Add sugar for extra sweetness if desired.
Step 4: Make the Dipping Sauce
In a small bowl, mix mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, and lemon juice. Adjust seasoning to taste.
Step 5: Assemble and Serve
Place the steak on a plate and top with caramelized onions.
Add the crispy fries on the side and a small bowl of dipping sauce. Garnish with fresh parsley if desired.
Tips:
Use a meat thermometer for perfect doneness (135°F for medium-rare).
Soak potato fries in water for 30 minutes before baking for extra crispiness.
Add garlic butter on top of the steak for more flavor.
