π¬ Homemade Kool-Aid Taffy π
Ingredients
2 cups granulated sugar
2 tablespoons light corn syrup
3/4 cup water
1 (0.16 oz) package of unsweetened Kool-Aid powder (any flavor you like!)
1 tablespoon butter or margarine
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
Prepare Your Workspace: Lightly grease a baking sheet or a heatproof surface with butter or nonstick spray. Have a candy thermometer ready, as itβs essential for this recipe.
Combine the Base Ingredients: In a medium-sized saucepan, mix together the sugar, corn syrup, and water. Stir gently over low heat until the sugar dissolves completely. Avoid stirring once the mixture begins to boil.
Cook to Soft-Ball Stage: Increase the heat to medium and bring the mixture to a boil. Attach your candy thermometer and cook until the temperature reaches 250Β°F (soft-ball stage). This step ensures the taffy will have the perfect chewy texture.
Add Flavor and Color: Remove the pan from the heat and quickly stir in the Kool-Aid powder, butter, and vanilla extract. The Kool-Aid not only adds a burst of fruity flavor but also gives the taffy its bright, eye-catching color. Mix thoroughly until everything is fully incorporated.
Cool and Stretch: Pour the hot mixture onto the prepared baking sheet. Allow it to cool slightly until itβs safe to handle but still pliable. Grease your hands with butter, then begin pulling and stretching the taffy repeatedly. This process incorporates air, giving the taffy its signature light texture.
Shape and Store: Once the taffy is smooth and shiny, roll it into a long rope and cut it into bite-sized pieces using kitchen scissors or a buttered knife. Wrap each piece in wax paper to prevent sticking, and store in an airtight container.
