Seared Fish with Shrimp and Mashed Potatoes
Ingredients:
For the Fish:
2 fillets of your choice of fish (such as cod, bass, or tilapia)
2 tbsp olive oil
Salt and pepper, to taste
1 tsp paprika or chili flakes (optional for heat)
For the Shrimp:
12 large shrimp, peeled and deveined
1 tbsp olive oil
2 cloves garlic, minced
1/2 tsp smoked paprika (optional)
Salt and pepper, to taste
Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
For the Mashed Potatoes:
4 large potatoes, peeled and cubed
1/2 cup heavy cream
1/4 cup butter
Salt and pepper, to taste
For the Sauce:
2 tbsp butter
1/4 cup white wine (optional, or use vegetable broth)
1/4 cup chicken broth
1 tbsp lemon juice
1 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
1 tsp red chili flakes (optional for heat)
Instructions:
For the Mashed Potatoes:
Boil the Potatoes:
In a large pot, place the peeled and cubed potatoes. Cover with water and add a pinch of salt. Bring to a boil and cook for about 15 minutes, or until the potatoes are fork-tender.
Mash the Potatoes:
Drain the potatoes and return them to the pot. Mash with a potato masher or use an electric mixer until smooth. Add the butter and heavy cream, then season with salt and pepper to taste. Keep warm.
For the Shrimp:
Cook the Shrimp:
In a large skillet, heat 1 tbsp of olive oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and cook for 30 seconds. Add the shrimp, paprika, salt, and pepper. Sauté the shrimp for 2-3 minutes per side, or until pink and cooked through. Remove from heat and set aside.
For the Fish:
Prepare the Fish:
Season both sides of the fish fillets with salt, pepper, and paprika (if using).
Cook the Fish:
In a separate skillet, heat 2 tbsp of olive oil over medium-high heat. Add the fish fillets and cook for 4-5 minutes per side, or until the fish is golden brown and cooked through. Once done, remove the fillets from the skillet and set aside.
For the Sauce:
Make the Sauce:
In the same skillet used for the fish, melt 2 tbsp of butter over medium heat. Add the white wine (or broth) and chicken broth, scraping up any bits left from the fish. Let the sauce simmer for 2-3 minutes to reduce slightly.
Finish the Sauce:
Stir in the lemon juice and chili flakes (if using), and let it cook for another minute. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
To Assemble:
Plate the Dish:
Spoon the mashed potatoes onto plates. Place the seared fish fillets on top of the mashed potatoes. Add a few shrimp on top of each fillet.
Add the Sauce:
Drizzle the sauce over the fish and shrimp. Garnish with fresh parsley and a sprinkle of chili flakes for extra flavor.
Serve immediately and enjoy this delicious combination of seared fish, shrimp, and creamy mashed potatoes with a flavorful sauce!
