Harlequin Salad Dressing 1940
1/2 cup salad oil
2 Tbsp. vinegar
1 tsp paprika
1 tsp powdered sugar
1/2 tsp dry mustard
2 tsp salt
dash tabasco sauce
2 cooked beets
1 hard boiled egg
1 tsp parsley
Chop finely, beets, egg, parsley. add remaining ingredients, put into a wide mouthed bottle or cruet, chill, and shake vigorously before using.

** Salad oil is a blanket term for any edible oil used in salad dressings. It may be corn oil, soybean oil, sunflower oil, safflower oil, canola oil, peanut oil, a light olive oil.
