🇬🇷 Greek Chicken Gyros with Cucumber Tzatziki
Tender, seasoned chicken wrapped in warm pita, topped with cool, creamy tzatziki and fresh veggies—a handheld Mediterranean masterpiece!
🧄 Ingredients:
For the Chicken Marinade:
1½ lbs boneless chicken thighs or breasts
1/4 cup plain Greek yogurt
3 tbsp olive oil
Juice of 1 lemon
4 cloves garlic, minced
1 tbsp red wine vinegar
1 tsp dried oregano
1 tsp paprika
Salt & black pepper to taste
For the Tzatziki Sauce:
1 cup plain Greek yogurt
1/2 cucumber, grated and squeezed dry
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 tbsp fresh dill (or 1 tsp dried)
1 tbsp lemon juice
Salt & pepper to taste
To Assemble:
4–6 warm pita or flatbreads
Sliced red onion
Diced tomatoes
Shredded lettuce
Feta cheese (optional)
🔥 Directions:
Marinate the chicken: Mix all marinade ingredients in a bowl. Add chicken and coat well. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour (or overnight for deeper flavor).
Cook the chicken: Grill or pan-sear over medium-high heat for 5–6 minutes per side until fully cooked and slightly charred. Let rest, then slice.
Make the tzatziki: In a bowl, mix all sauce ingredients until combined. Chill in the fridge until ready to use.
Assemble gyros: Warm your pita, then fill with sliced chicken, tzatziki, onions, tomatoes, and lettuce. Top with feta if desired.
