🍬 Kool-Aid Taffy Delight : Chewy, Fruity, Fun & Bursting with Colourful Flavour in Every Pull!
Ingredients:
(Makes about 50 bite-sized taffy pieces)
- 2 1/2 cups granulated sugar
- 3 tbsp cornstarch
- 1 cup light corn syrup
- 1/2 cup water
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 packet Kool-Aid (flavour of your choice — unsweetened)
- 1 tsp vanilla extract (optional)
- Food colouring (optional, for extra vibrancy)
- Butter or oil (for greasing hands and surfaces)
- Wax paper (for wrapping pieces)
---
Directions:
Step 1: Prep Your Area
1. Lightly butter a heat-safe surface like a marble slab or large baking sheet.
2. Butter a spatula and your hands, and set out wax paper squares for wrapping later.
---
Step 2: Make the Taffy Base
1. In a heavy-bottom saucepan, mix sugar, cornstarch, corn syrup, water, butter, and salt.
2. Stir constantly over medium heat until the sugar dissolves.
3. Attach a candy thermometer and boil without stirring until mixture reaches 260°F (hard-ball stage).
---
Step 3: Add Flavour & Colour
1. Remove from heat and quickly stir in Kool-Aid, vanilla, and optional food colouring.
2. Carefully pour the hot candy onto your prepared surface.
---
Step 4: Cool Slightly & Pull
1. Let sit for 1–2 minutes until cool enough to handle (but still pliable).
2. Using buttered hands, begin pulling the taffy — stretch and fold repeatedly for 5–8 minutes, until it becomes opaque, glossy, and firmer.
---
Step 5: Shape & Cut
1. Roll the pulled taffy into a log and cut into 1-inch pieces with buttered scissors or knife.
2. Wrap each piece in wax paper and twist the ends.
