- 16 oz cream cheese, softened
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 4 cups powdered sugar, sifted
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

1. **Prepare the Cake:**
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour three 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a large bowl, sift together the flour, sugar, baking soda, salt, and cocoa powder.

- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until smooth and well combined.

- Remove the cakes from the oven and allow them to cool in the pans for 10 minutes. Then, remove from pans and cool completely on wire racks.

2. **Make the Cream Cheese Frosting:**
- In a large bowl, beat the cream cheese and butter together until smooth.
- Gradually add the powdered sugar, beating until light and fluffy.
- Beat in the vanilla extract until well combined.

3. **Assemble the Cake:**
- Place one cake layer on a serving plate. Spread a layer of frosting over the top.
- Place the second layer on top and spread another layer of frosting.
- Place the third layer on top and spread frosting over the top and sides of the cake.
- Decorate as desired and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes before serving.
