Old-Fashioned Donut Muffins

Ingredients:

1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1 large egg
1/2 cup milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg

Topping:
1/4 cup melted butter
1/3 cup granulated sugar

Directions:

Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a 12-cup muffin tin with paper liners or grease lightly.
In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
Beat in the egg, then add milk and vanilla. Mix until well combined.
In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, salt, and nutmeg.
Gradually add dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring just until combined.
Divide the batter evenly among the muffin cups, filling about 3/4 full.
Bake for 15–18 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
Let muffins cool for 5 minutes, then dip the tops in melted butter and roll in granulated sugar.
Serve warm or let cool completely on a wire rack.
