This is pear salad. A southern staple.
When I get a craving for something my Mama and Grandmama used to make, I can’t wait to taste it again. Did anyone else grow up eating fruit salads made with canned Bartlett pears or a ring of canned pineapple? We thought we were eating”fancy” when we ate pear salad.
Ingredients:
Tinned pineapple rings or Bartlett pears
Duke’s mayo (suggested)
Juice from the canned fruit
Shredded cheese
Maraschino cherries
Instructions:
Set a ring of canned pineapple or canned Bartlett pears on a platter.
For the dressing, whisk mayo and a tiny bit of the canned fruit juice in a small bowl.
Dollop the fruit with the dressing.
Over it, scatter grated cheese.
Dot with a maraschino cherry.
