1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
1 teaspoon onion powder
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1 tablespoon olive oil (for frying)
For the Mushroom & Onion Gravy:
1 tablespoon butter
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 small onion, thinly sliced
1 cup mushrooms, sliced
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
2 cups beef broth
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon dried thyme (optional)
For the Garlic Mashed Potatoes:
4 large russet potatoes, peeled and cubed
3 cloves garlic, minced
1/2 cup whole milk (or heavy cream)
4 tablespoons butter
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1/4 cup Parmesan cheese (optional)
Instructions:
Step 1: Make the Salisbury Steaks
In a large bowl, mix the ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper.
Form the mixture into 4 equal-sized oval patties.
Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Cook the patties for about 4-5 minutes per side until browned. Remove from the skillet and set aside.
Step 2: Prepare the Mushroom & Onion Gravy
In the same skillet, add butter and olive oil.
Sauté the onions and mushrooms until softened, about 5 minutes.
Add minced garlic and cook for another minute.
Stir in the flour and cook for 1 minute to remove the raw flour taste.
Slowly pour in the beef broth while stirring, then add Worcestershire sauce, black pepper, salt, and thyme.
Let the gravy simmer for 5-7 minutes until thickened. Return the Salisbury steaks to the skillet and cook for another 5 minutes, spooning the gravy over them.
Step 3: Make the Garlic Mashed Potatoes
Boil the potatoes in salted water until fork-tender, about 15-20 minutes.
Drain and return to the pot.
In a small saucepan, melt butter and sauté the garlic for 1 minute until fragrant.
Add the warm milk, then pour the mixture over the potatoes.
Mash the potatoes until smooth, then mix in salt, pepper, and Parmesan cheese (if using).
Step 4: Serve and Enjoy
Plate the mashed potatoes and top with a Salisbury steak.
Generously spoon the mushroom & onion gravy over the steak and potatoes.
Garnish with fresh parsley if desired.
