Country Apple Fritter Bread

Ingredients:

Brown Sugar/Cinnamon Mixture
- ⅓ cup brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon

Apple Bread Loaf
- ½ cup butter, softened
- ⅔ cup sugar
- 2 eggs, room temperature
- 1 ½ teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 ¾ teaspoons baking powder
- ½ cup milk or almond milk, room temperature

Chopped Apple Mixture
- 2 large apples (such as Granny Smith), peeled and chopped into small pieces (not too fine)
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon

Old-Fashioned Creme Glaze
- ½ cup powdered sugar
- 1-3 tablespoons milk or cream (adjust for desired glaze thickness; use more milk for a thinner glaze similar to apple fritter donuts)

Directions:

1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a loaf pan.
2. In a small bowl, combine ⅓ cup brown sugar with 1 teaspoon cinnamon for the cinnamon sugar mixture and set aside.
3. In a large mixing bowl, cream together softened butter and ⅔ cup sugar until light and fluffy.
4. Beat in eggs one at a time, then stir in vanilla extract.
5. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour and baking powder.
6. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, alternating with milk, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.
7. In another bowl, toss chopped apples with 2 tablespoons sugar and 1 teaspoon cinnamon.
8. Fold the apple mixture into the batter gently.
9. Pour half of the batter into the prepared loaf pan. Sprinkle half of the cinnamon sugar mixture over the batter.
10. Add the remaining batter on top and sprinkle with the remaining cinnamon sugar.
11. Bake for 55-65 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
12. While the bread cools, prepare the glaze by whisking powdered sugar with 1 tablespoon milk or cream. Add more milk as needed to reach your desired consistency.
13. Drizzle the glaze over the cooled loaf before serving.

Tips:
Use tart apples like Granny Smith for a balanced flavor that cuts through the sweetness.
Make the glaze thinner to mimic the classic apple fritter donut drizzle for a more authentic finish.
