Savory Sausage Gravy and Biscuit Pie
I’ve been making this heartwarming breakfast pie on slow weekend mornings for years. It’s creamy, comforting, and comes together in no time. You’ll love how the flaky biscuits soak up all that rich sausage gravy—one bite and you’ll feel right at home.
Ingredients:
1 pound ground breakfast sausage
2 tablespoons unsalted butter
1/3 cup all purpose flour
2½ cups whole milk
Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
1 can (16 ounces) refrigerated biscuit dough or 8 homemade biscuits, halved
Instructions:
1. Preheat your oven to 375°F.
2. In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the sausage until it’s nicely browned, breaking it up with a spoon. Drain off any excess fat, leaving a little behind for flavor.
3. Stir in the butter until melted. Sprinkle the flour over the meat and whisk until it forms a smooth paste. Cook for about a minute to get rid of the raw flour taste.
4. Gradually pour in the milk, whisking constantly so the gravy stays silky. Let it simmer gently until it thickens, about 5 minutes. Season with salt and pepper.
5. Pour the gravy into a lightly greased 9-inch pie dish or baking pan. Arrange the biscuit halves on top, pressing them gently into the gravy.
6. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes, until the biscuits are golden and cooked through and the gravy is bubbling around the edges.
7. Let it rest for a few minutes before slicing. Serve warm, maybe with a pat of butter or a drizzle of hot sauce if you like a kick.
This dish is a guaranteed crowd-pleaser and perfect for lazy mornings. Enjoy every cozy bite with family and friends.
